Developmental Evaluation Expertise
The Whole Child Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics offers evaluations for children and youth from birth to 18 years of age. The Whole Child is out of network with insurance (i.e., private pay only). The Whole Child does not accept medical insurance and does not bill medical insurance. The Whole Child does not file insurance claims on the patient’s behalf. The Whole Child does not conduct prior authorizations. Families are provided with a superbill that they can file with insurance for reimbursement. However, there is no guarantee that insurance will reimburse partially or in total the cost of services provided by The Whole Child.
A New Patient Consultation consists of the following:
Part 1: (90 minutes; parent/caregiver only*; in person or telemedicine appointment)
- Comprehensive developmental and behavioral history
- Comprehensive medical, social, and family history
- Comprehensive Review of Systems
- Review of pertinent data from other sources**
*Adolescents may be present for Part 1, depending on the family’s preference.
**“Data from other sources” may include school reports (ex. FIE, IEP, ARD), outside assessments, and medical records. Any records the family wishes the provider to review should be scanned ahead of time into the patient’s medical record via the parent portal or brought to the visit. The Whole Child does not contact schools or other providers in order to obtain this paperwork. The provider will review up to 100 pages of records at no extra charge. Each page reviewed by the provider in excess of 100 will be assessed a fee of 10 cents per page, which will be charged to the card on file at the time of the visit.
Part 2: (90 minutes; patient present; in person only)
- Direct observation
- Appropriate developmental testing using standardized instruments
- Physical and neurological exams
- Discussion of diagnoses and recommendations
Optional 30-minute phone call or ZOOM meeting to discuss reports and recommendations.
A consultation report is generated for Part 1 and for Part 2. Reports and referrals are sent to the family through the secure parent portal of the electronic health record (EHR). Families who wish to have both parts completed in one day can usually be accommodated.
The Whole Child does not prescribe or manage medications—controlled substances or otherwise.
